Atlas is one of the three Titans in Greek mythology; son of Iapetos, brother of Menoetius, Prometheus and Epimetheus and father of the nymph Calypso, the Hesperides, Pleiades and Hyades. He used to be a giant, who was forced by Zeus to support the heavens with head and hands, standing at the western edge of the earth.
